LYRICS Beneath the Emperor's palace lies A labyrinthine maze A dungeon designed to break a man’s mind Searching for the gate There is but one exit hidden away Guarded by traps and a creature they say The light of day Lures the desperate to their graves Twenty years have come and gone Since Scirehaven fell Since I was confined, a prisoner of war, To this labyrinthine cell I have for too long been lost in this place Roaming the halls for a sign of the gate But then one day, Clambering through the dark I see a light... Yes, through the dark I see a light! (My pace is growing faster) For years I’ve prayed to see the light (My pace grows even faster) I start to run toward the light! The prospect of escape revives the hope in me Could the exit lie before my feet? Suddenly my path begins to collapse Forcing me to proceed Foolishly I’ve triggered some sort of trap In my desperation to leave The stones behind me give way almost as fast as I can run And spikes wait below Skeletons of those who’ve failed fill the pits Beckoning me to fall I defy... I’ve come too far to die The light of the gate is drawing near I will not give up now Swinging pendulums start cutting the path Barely missing me Foolishly I’ve triggered another trap In my desperation to leave These waving blades could cleave a man apart With just one slice, yet I still go on Splattered blood from those who’ve failed stains the walls A sign that all here will fall I defy... I’ve come too far to die The light of the gate is drawing near I will not give up now Freedom I shall see freedom this day The light of the gate is drawing near I will not give up now… My footing falters, sending me to the pits, Yet somehow, my hand grips a blade above I’m all but numb to the cutting pain, For pain is all I’ve known for so long The swinging blade slices deep as I hoist myself to my feet... And run! And run! Bleeding and bruised I come before the final trap A vat of boiling ooze Beneath a bridge that’s set to snap There’s no time to lose There’s no time to fear I dive across the bubbling ooze And I somehow make it clear At last, out of the traps The dungeon’s gate I meet! But the gate begins to twist and transform The gate has come to life The jagged stone ’round the door brought alive By an unseen sorcery Bending into the form of a monster’s face The entry’s frame now the mouth of a creature, Gnashing its horrible teeth It guards the exit from those who would escape If this will be my end I’ll stand and fight I draw my rusted sword and strike in vain the living gate The monster feels no pain, a roar escapes its biting mouth Spitting a ball of flame that knocks me to the ground I’m taken aback by the flaming attack When something catches my eye A glowing orb hidden within the monster’s face This must be the source that is driving the creature A hidden sorcery With the orb in sight I muster my strength again Raising my rusted sword once more to strike the living gate This time managing to pierce the glowing orb The monster screams in pain, wide open now its biting mouth While it's distracted I jump past the teeth and on into its throat The prospect of escape revives the hope in me As now the exit lies before my feet Before my feet! Sprinting down the final stretch of the path Toward the rays of the sun Echoing behind the creature still roars Beckoning my return I defy... I’ve come too far to die The sight of the gate is at my rear I will not give up now Freedom I have found freedom today The sight of the gate is at my rear I step into the light I step into the light!

LYRICS

Beneath the Emperor's palace lies
A labyrinthine maze
A dungeon designed to break a man’s mind
Searching for the gate

There is but one exit hidden away
Guarded by traps and a creature they say
The light of day
Lures the desperate to their graves

Twenty years have come and gone
Since Scirehaven fell
Since I was confined, a prisoner of war,
To this labyrinthine cell

I have for too long been lost in this place
Roaming the halls for a sign of the gate
But then one day,
Clambering through the dark I see a light...

Yes, through the dark I see a light!

(My pace is growing faster)
For years I’ve prayed to see the light
(My pace grows even faster)
I start to run toward the light!

The prospect of escape revives the hope in me
Could the exit lie before my feet?

Suddenly my path begins to collapse
Forcing me to proceed
Foolishly I’ve triggered some sort of trap
In my desperation to leave

The stones behind me give way almost as fast as I can run
And spikes wait below
Skeletons of those who’ve failed fill the pits
Beckoning me to fall

I defy...
I’ve come too far to die
The light of the gate is drawing near
I will not give up now

Swinging pendulums start cutting the path
Barely missing me
Foolishly I’ve triggered another trap
In my desperation to leave

These waving blades could cleave a man apart
With just one slice, yet I still go on
Splattered blood from those who’ve failed stains the walls
A sign that all here will fall

I defy...
I’ve come too far to die
The light of the gate is drawing near
I will not give up now

Freedom
I shall see freedom this day
The light of the gate is drawing near
I will not give up now…

My footing falters, sending me to the pits,
Yet somehow, my hand grips a blade above
I’m all but numb to the cutting pain,
For pain is all I’ve known for so long
The swinging blade slices deep as I hoist myself to my feet...
And run!

And run!

Bleeding and bruised
I come before the final trap
A vat of boiling ooze
Beneath a bridge that’s set to snap

There’s no time to lose
There’s no time to fear
I dive across the bubbling ooze
And I somehow make it clear

At last, out of the traps
The dungeon’s gate I meet!

But the gate begins to twist and transform
The gate has come to life

The jagged stone ’round the door brought alive
By an unseen sorcery
Bending into the form of a monster’s face
The entry’s frame now the mouth of a creature,
Gnashing its horrible teeth
It guards the exit from those who would escape

If this will be my end I’ll stand and fight
I draw my rusted sword and strike in vain the living gate
The monster feels no pain, a roar escapes its biting mouth
Spitting a ball of flame that knocks me to the ground

I’m taken aback by the flaming attack
When something catches my eye
A glowing orb hidden within the monster’s face
This must be the source that is driving the creature
A hidden sorcery
With the orb in sight I muster my strength again

Raising my rusted sword once more to strike the living gate
This time managing to pierce the glowing orb
The monster screams in pain, wide open now its biting mouth
While it's distracted I jump past the teeth and on into its throat

The prospect of escape revives the hope in me
As now the exit lies before my feet
Before my feet!

Sprinting down the final stretch of the path
Toward the rays of the sun
Echoing behind the creature still roars
Beckoning my return

I defy...
I’ve come too far to die
The sight of the gate is at my rear
I will not give up now

Freedom
I have found freedom today
The sight of the gate is at my rear
I step into the light

I step into the light!

about

Curse the Gods Cleveland, Ohio

One cold autumn night in 2008, four young men wandered into the cold forests of northeastern Ohio. Guided by the glow of the moon, they uncovered an ancient chest containing the legends of a distant, fantastical realm. They vowed to retell this forgotten myth through the only medium they know: METAL

Curse the Gods blend melodic harmonies, unorthodox structures, and harsh vocals.
